I had forgotten about this electronic Spanish group of the early 80s. Azul y Negro (named after Internazionale Milano's colours) is the brainchild of Carlos Garcia-Vaso (session guitarist etc for Mecano and Tino Casal amongst others) and Joaquin Montoya (a classically trained synth player and childhood friend of Carlos). Both originate from Cartagena, Murcia. Under the production talents of Julian Ruiz they came up with some memorable tunes.
An anecdote. The record company of Azul y Negro sent a tape to the production company of Kraftwerk ie the RTVE video of the 1982 Tour of Spain (La Vuelta Ciclista De Espaņa) with the theme tune
Me Estoy Volviendo Loco (I'm Going Mad). It is said that Kraftwerk found it so interesting that they came up with Tour De France track.
Following the success of
Me Estoy Volviendo Loco the organisers of La Vuelta asked the duo if they could pen another track for the 1983 Vuelta, this became
No Tengo Tiempo (Don't Have Time) and was another big hit for them. Internationally, they had a number 1 hit on the Eurobeat charts with the 12"
The Night.
You can find this here in Spanish, specifically under Azul y Negro in the index, then Biografia and then under 6. Digital (1983). It's an interesting read as it goes through the changes in pop in the early eighties in Spain.
