I wonder of Mick MacNeil will bring out his old keys for the Simple Minds reunion tour. Here's a guide of Mick's setup:

Life in a Day/Real to Real Cacophony/Empires & Dance

Korg 770 monophonic
Farfisa Vip-600 combo-organ
Yamaha SS-30 string-machine
Wurlitzer 200 electric piano
Roland Jupiter-4 (Empires & Dance only)

Sons & Fascination/Sister Feelings Call

Roland Jupiter-4
Roland RS-09 organ/strings
Korg 770

New Gold Dream

Roland Jupiter-8
Roland Jupiter-4
Oberheim OBXa
Korg 770

I'm afraid no Prophet 5 or Minimoog as featured on some of the videos and live shows. These were probably hired.

Here's the video that got me into Simple Minds back in early 83:

Isn't there an element of Friends Reunited about this?
I knew you then and always found you pretentious and irritating.

Why should I suddenly be interested in meeting you again...?

Played Empires and Dance last night and listened to the Arpeggaitor at the beginning of This Fear of Gods. "That sounds familiar. That's my Jupiter-4!" Good heavens it's this synth that made the difference between Empires & Dance/Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call and their first 2 albums. New Gold Dream involved the warmer sound of the Jupiter-8.

I still have a feeling that Mick used the Prophet 5 somewhere along the line.

Will, please ask Mick whether the strings used on Empires & Dance and Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call came from either the Roland RS-09, Roland Jupiter-4 or both or even a Prophet 5.

Will, also ask him about the Roland Jupiter-4 whether that was the main synth on the 1980 and 1981 albums.

Thanks cool

First off, confirmation tonight from Mick tonight that it was indeed a Jupiter used as the main synth

Secondly!!
Don't say I didn't say i was skeptical!!

this message was sent to us within the past few days....

"Mick MacNeil, Derek Forbes and Brian McGee, 3 of the original Simple Minds line up, would like to take this opportunity to thank their loyal fans for the overwhelming support shown to them since it was announced that there was to be a reunion of the former band members.

Regrettably, the lead singer,Jim Kerr, is unable to participate in the reunion.

However ,inspired by the encouragement of their fans, Mick, Derek and Brian have written and produced new material reminiscent of Sons & Fascination.

Having thoroughly enjoyed working together again, they hope their fans will be equally delighted with the new tracks.

Thank you for your continued support!
Mick MacNeil"

Hmm, interesting. No mention of Mr Burchill. I would say because Jim and Charlie have been busy preparing for their brief appearance at Nelson Mandela's birthday concert... but they must have known that from the start.

Anyway Jim doesn't play anything, so they don't exactly need him - he can add lyrics later.

The much-bootlegged Sparkle In the Rain instrumental demo tracks prove the strength of Burchill, Forbes and MacNeil as an instrumental outfit. For me, those Kerr-less demos are far superior to almost everything that made it on to the actual album.

Cool! Doesn't sound very original, but it certainly sounds good...

It'll be interesting to se how this develops.

...I think I use the word 'interesting' far too much.
