Wow. eek

OK, gotta visit that next time we're in the US!

Yeah, I miss the excitement of browsing a decent record store, too. Also record fairs - they went seriously downhill at the point the record industry cracked down on live bootlegs. It used to be such a thrill to find a new live tape... concerts are so disposable, an intangible moment in a band's history, but one in which that band's true brilliance can be most clearly seen. It's the fire in which they forge a real connection with their fans and that can last decades, as we well know. Bootlegs captured that moment in time and I for one miss stumbling across them at record fairs. smile

Apart from the last few John Foxx releases, I still by everything in a shop

HMV Southampton.
What they don't have on the shelves I have never had any difficulty ordering. Does that still count?

I love the old second hand vinyl/record shops. Weasels here is superb - absolutely bursting with stuff, and the Oxford Music Shops are quite good.
It is bad that so many are closing, but I suspect a resurgence...

Thanks for pointing this out. Mind you, I'm only human -- even though I want to be a machine.

I always buy my music from record stores. I work near a store that always seems to have a great back-catalogue collection.

When I go to midtown, there is a Virgin megastore that I visit and when in Greenwich Village there are several used vinyl stores.

The record shops round here really are rubbish, if you have a slightly different taste in music. Or maybe even if you don't.

I've noticed that variation and choice is getting less and less. On the rare occasion I do find what I'm looking for, I realise I can get it much cheaper online. And most of the stuff I want rarely seems to make it to the shops anyway.

Paying up to an extra five pounds at times, just to have the CD there and then isn't worth it. I'm no longer that impatient.

I think buying music online, be it CDs or digital, will eventually become the norm. It's already that way for me, really.
