Ah, I know it would come to me if I kept thinking about it. It was Todd Rundgren . Although I'm not sure now if he only played synths or not.

I am a theremin enthusiast!One of the bands I play in uses theremin as the main instrument!They also made cellos and violins and other experimental type theremins...Id love to have one!
