"He Walked by Night" from 1948. The inspiration for the TV show Dragnet with wonderful film noir photography:

Yes, the cinematographer for this was John Alton , author of "Painting with Light," which is an apt description of what he does in this obscure gem.

The scenes in the Los Angeles sewers are pretty amazing although this grainy image doesn't really do it justice:

Some nice imagery above.

Did watch the Eurovision song contest . I found that the standard was much higher this year and thought that it would have been a closer affair but was surprised by the runaway winner. The UK entry was a memorable performance though.

Stepping back in time with Roxy Music's The Thrill of it All from their glam days to their suave debonair days. It's amazing how influential they were, and Ferry can write some entertaining songs. Eno is totally bizarre in the early videos.

Ultravox - The Very Best . I have already seen most of the videos here from the VHS tape I once owned. The added bonuses from the St. Albans concert have been a revelation. Billy's Oberheim OB-X and Yamaha CS-80 in action at the same time, wow! Never thought they featured so prominently in the Vienna album.

Duran Duran - Classic Albums: Rio. A must have for those who adored this album. It does go into some of the recording techniques and the songwriting of some of the gems on this album, which is essentially why I bought this DVD. The late Colin Thurston is highly regarded here and would have been great for him to have contributed to this well presented documentary.

I wonder why Jean Michel Jarre doesn't make available more of his amazing concerts on DVD. His earlier concerts have an historic importance from a musical and technical point of view. I grabbed what's available ie Jarre in China and Solidarnosc - Live from Gdansk and thoroughly enjoyed them.

There was mention of a band recently on another thread which I had completely forgotten about. Even more so I had their LPs at one point. So I had some fun yesterday watching on youTube the amazing Siouxsie and the Banshees . Their success and longetivity was due to the fact that they were indeed clever people behind the punkish image. They were ahead of the game and moved smoothly and quickly onto New Wave when Budgie and John McGeoch joined the Sioux/Severin axis. All in all, it was Siouxsie vocals that carved up the songs which gave them the originality that brings success. She's also brilliant on stage and on music videos.

Chris wink

Red Dwarf "Back To Earth" and the new "Reggie Perrin" - I've heard negative things about both but I really enjoyed/am enjoying both.

The Reggie Perrin series is growing on me too.

Martin Clunes plays it really well, and a lot of the observational humour is very good - his Father-in-law for instance...

But how come I can relate so well to his view of the world...? eek frown

The Dark Knight

For once the hype was accurate. Heath Ledger's performance was unforgettable.

Ive heard its less comicbook and more dark, as the title suggests. Will be getting the 2disc blu-ray of this soon.
