We're pleased to announce the forthcoming release of D.N.A. - a new double disc (CD & DVD) by John Foxx, which is exclusively available through Townsend Records . This features unique collaborations between John Foxx and some of his favourite film-makers, with all of the short movies on the DVD being made especially for this project. On top of that, the CD features all the music for the films, plus tracks that Foxx had recorded as 'possibilities' for soundtracks. The final track on the disc, Over the Mirage is a new collaboration between John Foxx, Harold Budd and Ruben Garcia, while both parts (2 & 7) of A Secret Life and Violet Bloom were recorded with Steve D'Agostino. Ex-Japan percussionist Steve Jansen also features on the A Secret Life instrumentals. All of the stunning artwork for the project has been designed by Jonathan Barnbook, who has previously worked with Damien Hirst and also David Bowie, designing the sleeve and inner booklet for his Heathen album in 2002.
The full track-listing for D.N.A. is as follows...

Two releases in as many months?! Interesting.

Flightpath Tegel was a superb track. Hope there's more where that came from.

Pre-ordered. Have to say I'm more interested in this than I was in Metatronic (though of course I bought that one as well).

It certainly sounds the most interesting of the new releases, and technically the first album of all-new solo material relased solely under John's name for 4 years. The follow up to "Tiny Colour Movies", maybe?

More Barnbrook DNA art here

"The design draws inspiration from the elaborate title sequences of early twentieth century cinema, whilst evoking the black-and-white stylistic expressionism of Film noir. "

I'm looking forward to this release smile

as a confirmed fan of A Secret Life I'm very intrigued by Violet Bloom, and by ASL parts 7 & 2 and as to what they will sound like, (I hope they don't end up feeling like fragments out of context though).

Got mine today, agree it doesn't look like a "Foxx" release.

Music I can't fault, Foxx just never disappoints.
The Movies however are....erm.....crap!!!

Karborn's is like a really early version of Windows Media players built in effects, really quite shocking how this can be classed as anything other than garbage.
Violet Bloom is another that could be botched together in 5 minutes.

The rest are fair to good.

Music 10/10 Videos 4/10

On the whole I enjoyed listening to DNA and there are some stand-out tracks, Maybe Tomorrow, and Kaiyagura but however hard I try I just can't get my head or ears around A Secret Life.

The DVD is interesting but it'll yonks before I watch them again.

Maybe Tomorrow, Flightpath Tegel and Phantom Lover are all brilliant. Don't care much for the rest though.

Haven't watched the DVD yet - I suspect the more ambient tracks work better with films than on their own.

Pretty much spot on there Alex. Maybe Tomorrow is really catchy and perhaps works better *sans* visuals. Phantom Lover is growing on me although I have to consider it more metadelic.. than the rest.

Mine arrived today - but SO "jetlagged" from watching World Cup matches that I'm not really interested in watching but watch anyway!!! Nevertheless, I got through the "Motion" disc and can report positively! Obviously, "Tegel" is a masterpiece and very cleverly produced. No strong dislikes to anything but will watch all again over next few days.
The Karborn track throws me back to being 8-9 years old when something very similar formed a part of a "time-fill" video when TV wasn't 24hrs - I sat glued to it each time because I kept seeing "stuff" in it!
