Gordon & Gunn - The Shortwave Sessions
Recorded: Sept 2008
Location: Shortwave Studios, Buxton.

The idea: To get their combined music equipment set up in a big room (as big as a...) with a big PA and record whatever happens.

Louis & Matt played nearly everything live, only the drum machines and the 505 played along with them. Infact the 505 was hardly used, they were having too much fun playing. This gives 'The Shortwave Sessions' a retro, simplistic sound and style that you can only achieve when you actually use your fingers!

The equipment ranged from old synths, shortwave radio, dictaphone, megaphone, bass, guitar, electric pads, numerous delays and a cd playing random radiophonic style sci-fi effects.

They set about making some noise......
6 hours later they stopped - not because they wanted to but because the local police paid them a visit and asked them to stop.
Being fine pillars of the community they co-operated fully with the local constabulary wink

Anyway, 6 hours of pretty much non-stop material was recorded.
This was chopped & edited at Matt's studio into a much leaner 1 hour's worth of music.
It was then mastered by the talented Shaun Brooks from Dubsounds and hey presto - the 'The shortwave Sessions' was born!

Its raw, intense, ambient, mad and melodic; infact its surprisingly 'together'.

So if you don't mind your electronica ride a bit bumpy and rather surreal then you will probably like the twisted electronic mutation that is 'Gordon & Gunn - The Shortwave Sessions'.

Available Monday 1st December on Toffeetones Records

Free sample track - 'Champion'.

These were Derbyshire steak & Kidney puddings.
Not for the faint hearted - hardcore suet.

An important lesson was learnt here which I can share -

NEVER eat a steak & kidney pudding that's as big as your head!

Stick to this and you'll never go far wrong.
