Agreed. The shows in Japan only included 5 (out of 14) songs that were originally recorded with Louis. I'm hoping for a higher ratio than this at Cargo.

Please let's not forget that John hasn't played any shows in Japan for twenty-five years and so it was unlikely that very many people who were there will have heard any of the Metamatic tracks performed live.

It doesn't necessarily mean that this set will be repeated at Cargo - but even if it is, would it really matter? The set in Japan included three songs which have never been performed live in the UK - two of which (Young Savage and The Garden) have been on everyones 'wish list' for many years.

Rob

Impossible! wink [/b]
The reason im interested in 'Impossible' is that its not been featured on any official live albums to date, neither will it appear on the forthcoming 'Neuro Video' release.

Have to agree with this, even though 'Metamatic' is iconic, i feel its time for these tracks to be less featured. At least for a while in future shows.

I say future shows, because as Robs just said, this was more of a showcase for fans that almost never get the chance to hear these live.

I thought the set list for the gigs was good. Considering John hasn't played there for so long, it would have been very easy to do the Metamatic show or a Metamatic-heavy set – but he didn't.

There is so much more to John Foxx than his debut solo album, and the live shows are the place to prove this. I think it was a bold and sensible/logical move to give them a lot of new tracks, but to still keep the long-time fans happy who have waited so long to see him, by at least playing the oldies they were (hopefully) expecting. I certainly can't imagine anybody being disappointed with the set list, and by all accounts the gigs went down a storm.

John did his 'retro' tour last year so it's great to see shows with a mixture of old and new again. Shadow Man, Camera and Uptown/Downtown are obviously John's current favourites from his later albums to play live, as these seem to have been in the set since Cargo last year. And it's good to see the reworked My Sex and The Man Who Dies Every Day back in there too.

I would imagine for next month's show, John will be keeping most of the same set (they've rehearsed it all, why change it?) with a few new additions to promote the reissues.

.....and great to see 'Young Savage' making an appearance this time round. Im all for other Ultravox! era tracks that dont normally get played at a Foxx / Gordon show. Hopefully not turning the subject of two threads together here, but im all for new live reworks, as long as they dont sound too 'remix / dancey'.

I certainly wouldn't be disappointed with the same set-list as Japan smile

I recall from Rob's original Cargo announcement that "The show will feature a longer set than usual", so maybe there is room for more of the newer stuff without losing any of the older material from the Japan shows laugh

The Japan setlist would be fine for me - or with a few changes too!!

It doesn't matter which setlist John & Louis will finally perform;
I HAVE 100% TRUST THEY WILL BLOW US AWAY AND WE ALL WILL BE GLAD IN THE END!!...

I'm sure they make the right decisions. wink

This has just been posted on John's blog:-

Thanks, Glimmer, re-issues etc

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came to the shows in Tokyo. It was a fantastic experience and we met some lovely people who made it a very special trip for us.

It's been very hectic since we got back - The Best Of: Glimmer is out on Monday, followed by the re-issues of The Garden, The Golden Section and In Mysterious Ways on October 6.

And then the Cargo show in London on October 16 and Venice two days later. I don't want to give too much away about the set but yes, Young Savage and The Garden were performed in Japan and they will also feature in London and Venice.

Hopefully see some of you very soon

Steve
