Funny that it sometimes can be easier to find a vinyl than a cd. [/b]
Well, considering I bought IMW on LP when it was still new, that doesn't say much for the record and CD stores near me.

Had a shocking moment on Saturday, though -- I was in a generic family chain restaurant. They had some music playing (mainly audible in the bar area and washrooms), probably a satellite radio station, and "Underpass" came on. Probably the third time in my life I've heard something by John Foxx somewhere that wasn't my own record/tape/CD/mp3.

My local HMV never got the new 'Metamatic' in from the start, and are still not going too. The only way to buy it from my HMV is to order it, as if its an old release.
Ive asked if theres going to be any late delivers of it as a normal stock item but they said there would not be the demand for it enough. [/b]
My local one had ONE copy(well when I went in anyway) and I grabbed it smile ,ran to the counter to pay before I got rugby tackled by the crowd wanting it out of my sweaty hands smile

And I was referring to recently, where I walked into a specialty record shop and had my pick of quite a selection of John Foxx on vinyl. Yet, the record shop I frequent all the time has yet to get Metamatic on cd

Thats quite the thing Maryann,I regularly check out the local charity shops and sometimes you can pick up a real stormer.ok maybe just here in the UK(because they were more widely available) but it's always worth a wee search. smile

There are specialty stores and then there are the unexpected finds like flea markets and rummage sales. The thing I always take note of is that the higher priced artists depend on the geographic location and I cannot find the common denominator. For example, one place I checked out had the highest prices assigned to Pink Floyd vinyls, while another place had the highest prices for 1980s synth groups.

John Foxx CDs etc.
We have one miserable pathetic branch of Woolworths and WH Smith here in Bedford - neither of them ever stock any JF product anytime ever (when I worked at the Bedford WH Smith in 1984/5 the guy running the record department then was brilliant and there was a full set of albums/cassettes by JF - and the singles were always stocked)
Over the years we've had the much missed Andy's Records - where I bought my copies of Metamatic/Garden/Golden Section.
HMV (closed early 1987) had a few as well, since then we've had various shops - our branch of Fopp won't be missed though, it was quite awful and cramped, and badly laid out.
MVC/Music Zone are much missed as they were our last proper CD stockists.

What I'd love to happen is for HMV/Virgin and a good independent shop to open here - but I suppose the record companies self destruction will prevent this - I will never ever ever pay for downloaded music - I want the real thing on vinyl/CD etc.

Whenever I want anything special now, it's by mail order/E-Bay or visit Milton Keynes HMV/Virgin or as a last resort go to the shops in London - like Sister Ray.

It's sad it's got like this - but the record companies only have themselves to blame!!!

Thank you for saying that. I thought I was the only one who felt that way.

Since we are on the subject....

Has anyone noticed those so called 'deluxe' cd boxes that include a small poster and booklet?
They cost more money and basically give you what you used to get for free with a vinyl album ...
.
...except with the album the poster wasnt folded into an itty bitty square and the booklet wasnt written in font so small that you need an electron microscope to see it

I agree with what Herr X said about shops closing down. The same thing is happening here in my town and several others on the outskirts. All the Woolworths have gone, and even most of the smaller chains. Places like Virgin went years ago from our area, and now were left with one record shop in eight square miles.
