I sincerely doubt that John is 49. Sounds like he just got his lyrics mixed up.

"He drives by 1958..."

Nevertheless, I always wondered what the significance of that year was...

Anything's possible - even JF in drag (or Stormtroopers, even...)

I know that the lyric was not the usual year, and that there was a big wry smile - but can't possibly rely on my elderly ears to tell me whether I heard right. 1948 - possible. He wears it well.
