I'm really liking this stuff! The sleevenotes on the 'Sideways' CD also.

A lot of what's talked about in the text is mirrored in the songs; celebrity culture ('From Trash') and political spin ('Friendly Fire')

He really has lost it this time. Forever.

But that really makes good science-fiction reading. I wonder if any more music will accompany this idea...

It reminds me of the style of writing of the sleeve notes for Sideways.

As you say Alex, wonder if its promotion for something new.

Do you have anything that you want to tell us Rob?

The more I read it, the more it comes across like a Burroughs routine - government, bureaucracy, serial killers, war, etc...

"Faction is clearly out of control, so I'm contacting any and all media
concerned with Faction characters I've managed to uncover so far "

In his Nova Trilogy of books Burroughs is Agent Lee, his mission to investigate and subvert the methods of mind control being used by The Nova Mob, a gang of intergalactic criminals intent on destroying Earth..

This whole blog really does read like something Burroughs would write -

"As a result, LifeGrab Faction now finds itself licensed
to encompass death, maiming, suicide and to enter any urban emergency
situation in any and all territories of the world with complete financial,
legal, political, economic and moral immunity."

The text above reminds me of 'The Ticket That Exploded' the following bit -

"They do this in order to weave a story intended to gradually insinuate itself into the public mind, at any level."

Is very reminiscent of Burroughs thoughts about language which he called 'The Word Virus'

Probably more likely inspired by the recent big brothery that's been flooding the media... but who knows...!

Or, to quote Laurie Anderson (who was in turn quoting Burroughs) "Language Is A Virus (From Outer Space)"...

Ok ok. I accept that in these forum circles it might be considered heresy, but has anyone considered the latest posting might just be the latest in the line of quickly concocted mumbo jumbo, designed to gloss over the fact that John's not really got anything to say?

I don't know. I know I'm picky, but it's hard to read anything into something when passages are actually written in a style that can be too hard to read in itself.

confused

EG, as usual, you make a fine pointy thing.

How many sides of the face can one laugh on simultaneously?

It's an obituary, that's what it is.
Six weeks since he released an album, and John Foxx has imploded.
Become nothing more than fractals.
He exists only as a reflection now.
And in light on windows…

Sorry to put the kybosh on this one, but an Internic search reveals that the domain was registered in Germany in March last year:

Domain Name: LIFEGRAB.COM
Registrar: SCHLUND+PARTNER AG
Whois Server: whois.schlund.info
Referral URL: http://registrar.schlund.info
Name Server: NS41.1AND1.COM

Status: ok
Updated Date: 16-nov-2006
Creation Date: 01-mar-2006
Expiration Date: 01-mar-2007

Still - all a bit bizarre, innit?! I enjoyed the post; it was certainly well-crafted sci-fi, though judging by the various 'WTF?!' comments after it, perhaps it may have confused a section of his MySpace audience who aren't so familiar with his forays into media other than music. wink

Ok. Who's for setting up a "lifegrab" forum, where we post garbage cryptic messages, allegedly to other Lifegrab "teams"?
We could post "Sideways" type stuff and generally expand the LifeGrab conspiracy.

It's easy to set up free forums (NerveJam.Com forum used to be hosted by someone else, originally..)

Nah. I Can't be arsed either.

Should be deleted from his myspace. Where was his anti-spam shield?
eek

The bottom line is that we like John for his music and art.
