Hi Craig

I seem to remember Will posted a while ago saying that he would include photos for whoever he passed the disc on to. (A very kind gesture). In fact, I think there's a reference to it on the page before this one. wink

I am pretty sure this was why I asked him if he had any more pics going spare that I could beg off him. He has taken some fab photos of John and Louis!

Hope this helps solve the mystery!

Best wishes

Sarah laugh

The typed bit of paper was a mystery to me too but I passed it on anyway!! laugh ,as I did with the typed disc info( I can always use the fantastic covers done for us here on this thread smile )
I enclosed the pics as I just thought it would be nice to pass someting else on smile
(sorry about the quality, these things never turn out right when you want them too,it's always the mistake prints that turn out perfect!! )

I also just copied the discs and kept my copies, sending on the ones I was sent, hope that was right!!

So the mystery of the message on the paper remains - was it a handwritten message from ol' Chisel Cheeks himself, passed on by Cerise at Ultravox Central, cryptically coded to avoid misuse in the wrong hands, or perhaps its a cry for help from an estranged forum member, hoping one of us can untangle the message and come to their aid - or it's probably just a piece of paper with someone's shopping list on that they forgot to take out of the envelope when posting out! It's one to ponder.
Cheers
PS Garry - I need your address to pass the CDs on!!!!

I designed the cover for this back in the day. Might be of interest to some to know that this was an alternate design as the first was prepped and ready to go to print but was pulled at the last minute. Seems that the rights to use the Brian Griffin picture on the front had not been obtained or could not be nailed down in time to meet the release date. The entire thing was different in every way to what was released and only exists now in a limited edition of one!

Before anyone asks I don’t have a boxfull of these VHS’. Wish I did. Big JF fan then and now so it was a real treat to design the cover. Around the same time I was designing record sleeves for Gary Numan making another childhood dream come true. smile

Hi Straker! A pleasure to hear from you. laugh

I have a JPEG of the original sleeve (of both sleeves, in fact), though I can't for the life of me remember where I got the original one from. I could put them both up here for comparison if you like, with your permission?

Both Rob and I can sympathise re: photography, many a fee has to be negotiated for the EMI releases that we do. Some photographers are great to deal with and reasonable in their fee expectations, some not so much. Anton Corbijn was great, and there's a guy you'd expect to be difficult - normally he charges in the tens of thousands of pounds, but the EMI Gold releases only had a tiny budget. There was a great shot of his that we wanted to use behind the Vienna CD and also on the cover of our last fanzine. He agreed to £400 for those two uses, which we paid for out of our own pocket. He was a nice guy. Paul Cox is always great to deal with too, and Brian Cooke.

Both sleeves are very nice, by the way - and yes, totally different. I think I do actually prefer the final one though, it's more 'John'. Nice job! laugh

Hi Cerise. I have no problem with them going up. Not sure how it stands re Brian Griffin’s pic as that was entirely what stalled the first version. Would putting it up on-line count as "publishing" it?

Thanks. Bit daunting to work on something like that where you admire the artist so much (and with DL being a graphic designer himself!). Not everything I’ve designed I would necessarily want to be reminded of and I was worried when doing this that it might not work out but in the end both passed muster I think.

Surprised this VHS hasn’t been superceded by a bells and whistles DVD version by now. When I was at college we toured Central TV studios in Birmingham and I got chatting with one of the designers there who it transpired was helping John put together the video for Stars on Fire! Seemed like there was plenty of stuff from that that would only add to a DVD package.

Has this not happened because Dennis doesn’t like the vids or is there another reason do you know?

You got a copy from me - it's on one of the EV Back-Up Discs... wink

I'll dig 'em out and put them on the appropriate page in the Discography and post here to let everyone know when it's been done.
