I'm surprised our new forum administrator hasn't mentioned this 'un.

Soft Cell - 'It's A Mugs Game' where Marc mentions the band & the album.

Oh what a fate worse than death
Oh well he can't hit you
You can hit him back
And play your records so loud
All the ones that he especially hates
Deep Purple in Rock, Led Zeppelin II
Well even you hate those

& a fresh round of spankies to Stringy Bob for forgetting to mention these lyrics:

You're relatives are white & all your children have record players.
They listen to Tom Robinson, The Beatles & The Byrds & Leo Sayer.

David Bowie - Joe The Lion:

"Joe the lion, Went to the bar
A couple of drinks on the house an' he was
A fortune teller he said
"Nail me to my car
and I'll tell you who you are""

Okay, taking liberties I know, as it's not a music artist that part of Bowie's lyrics here speak of, but the line 'nail me to my car' is a reference to an artist of another kind, and to the dangerous art of Chris Burden with his 1974 performance piece titled Trans-fixed. Burden was placed in a crucifixion pose and nailed through the hands to the rear of a Volkswagen Beetle.

In my defence

a) I've been ill recently (combination of sinusitis / laryngitis - damn those Greeks!)

b) I hated the Red Noise album, apart from one or two tracks, so I don't own a copy - give away my original vinyl copy to a friend within months of buying it.

However, I'll accept the spankies :p

P.S. How about "I'm listening to Duke Ellington on waves of saxophone" by the aforementioned W.Nelson Esq. of this parish, in 'Lay-Zee Boy Recliner' from Sunflower Dairy Product (Noise Candy disc 3)

Is that us quits Mr.I?

"And early morning when I wake up
I look like Kiss but without the make up"

Robbie Williams - Strong

The same R.P.Williams Esq. sings:

"I'll be looking for serial monogamy
and not some bird who looks like Billy Connolly"

but I can't remember which track (maybe Rock DJ?).
