First things first, this is a shameless bit of self-promotion!

Having worked as a graphic designer for the last 13 years, I've recently found myself going back to my roots as an artist and combining that with my obsession with science-fiction. This is the direction I'm now trying to push my career (no doubt with a lot of disappointment and frustration along the way), and I have created a new website purely for my digital artwork and illustration work.

There isn't much on there at the moment... but you have to start somewhere!

As always, thoughts, comments and criticism appreciated (unles it's "give up now" etc!!).

Linky thingy

yes, same here from me Alex, and I hope you will keep working away at it.

The sculptural nature of digital tools can lend themselves very well to the physical aspects of particular retro design. My main fav 'old' sci-fi visionaries are Foss and Bonestell, the former with his 70's insect patterned and space battered creations, and the latter with his 50's sleek and silver craft and rugged planetscapes.
(Foss was pretty much plundered for the look of the digital effects on Babylon 5).

Thanks - mine too I think! It seems you learn something new with each piece.

Three pieces of my work (Dalek, Islands & Another World) along with a mini biog, are featured in the 'reader's artwork' on the DVD-ROM of the new issue of ImagineFX Magazine!

I'm first in the list, which is nice, so maybe that makes up for not actually appearing in the magazine itself!

My influence does come from those original 'visionary' artists of the 70s; Chris Moore, Tim White, Chris Foss, Roger Dean and David Hardy, whom I've become friends with in recent years, which has been an inspiration in itself!

I also like Discovery very much. There is exactly the right amount of expression on the two tiny figures in that fantasy world to sum up their feelings/dreams etc. If that makes any sense.

Thank you - I think that's just about exactly what I'd hoped to achieve! smile

At the moment (other than the Dalek piece), I've been avoiding a central character as such, so the 'viewer' can project themselves into the situation... sort of... hopefully! If that makes sense!

For those interested, here's the second incarnation of the piece I'm currently working on.

Hey, that's a lovely dreamy image for this time of night. I'll be seeing it when I close my eyes.

Keep up the good work Alex.
