For those who think the 80s was all about excess – it was! It’s just that Gary couldn’t afford it. He’d clearly stopped shelling out for a stylist too, relying on his mum Beryl instead – aw bless.

No, he’s not auditioning for the dance revue of Casablanca - I guess this is what happens if your mum starts dressing you when you’re in your mid-20s;

Heh! Yeah! Just in case you weren't sure who you had gone to see!

Tourist 1; "Well, that could be Rick..."

Tourist 2; "Don't remember Sam owning a PPG Wave synthesizer - wasn't it just a piano and a cockatoo?"

Tourist 1; "Is this the bit with the Nazi's coming in? What's that awful noise?"

Tourist 2; "Slap Bass"

wink

A teacher at my school invited me and a couple of classmates to spend the weekend at his house.
As a bonus we would attend a concert by Roxy Music. I was not familiar with Roxy back then.
When we were on our way to the venue, he played this tape.
"What is this shitmusic you're playing"? I asked.
It appeared to be an album by Roxy Music ... shocked
As our American friends would say "you didn't give me a timeframe Lody " Are we talking Eno period Roxy or later when Ferry was going through his "Argentinian traffic warden with an eye infection" persona ? did he try and speak in Dutch like Steve McLaren "Dish ish big song for ush : Angel Eyesh !
I see our mutual friend Shandy* Van Der Meyde did pull up any trees (or even boom) at Eindhoven either *so called because of his alleged (hello lawyers !) love of alcohol [/b]
laugh
The cassette playing in the car played their first album (if I remember correctly).
The gig was in 1978, the 'Manifesto' tour.
So no more eye infection for Bryan, not even a tie! (but was that a Rolex on his wrist?).
And about Shandy (ha! I'll tell my friends about this nickname), he left, and didn't play 90 minutes once ...

Jean Michel Jarre Docklands concert was that 88 or 89? Then my first proper gig was The Prodigy at the Waterfront Norwich 1992

How can Jean Michel Jarre not be a proper gig??!

My first was Peter Gabriel's Secret World tour, Sheffield Arena. Monday May 24th 1993. A monumental day.

Yeah point taken, that was my first gig. It just didn't feel like a proper gig for some reason.

I know what John means - I was there too. Bunch of projections on old docks and music being carried away by the wind. Then Fireworks. There were some 'moments' but the whole thing was a bit fractured and the sound not that great to almost render it meaningless. Felt more like a transient installation of sorts than an actual gig.
