New Year, new topic.

I am sure we can keep things sensible. wink

I have just spent the first of several hours looking at this: http://sleevage.com/

Anyone interested in sleeve design should give it a butcher's.

Great topic - and a great site to start with!

One of my favourites is this, entitled "no longer forgotten music"

It's a fair cop. You will naturally forgive me but I have neither the energy nor the know-how nor even the desire to change the title of the thread. I am looking at this website too - it's good, it's very very good! smile

Its one of those great daft projects that come around every now and then, I beleive the guy doing it is going to exhibit the photos at some point.

'Blue Monday Owners Club' badges were issued to the first few people to send in their pics which was a nice touch.

Virtual Drum Machines

I rather enjoyed this site - A 'purist' friend of mine poo poohed this site as the sound samples were 'low quality', but I had great fun trying out all the old drum machines from yesteryear.

I even managed to recognise some presets from tracks/singles etc I'm familiar with. cool

Here's another totally useless but really quite arty and fun thing I found. It's called Wordle and "is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide".

I put in some well known texts - cough cough - and came up with these:

www.flightradar24.com - a kind of modern computer-age equivalent of geeky 'plane-spotting' but is handy if you're tracking someone who's in the air ... occasionally a plane you're tracking may 'dispappear' but apparently that's nothing to worry about confused

more retro futurism, this time its the idea of present day technology as being set in the 70's - ALT/1977.

Came across this one today, a set of photographs of rusting, decaying cars in an abandoned California junkyard. Mostly shot at night under a full moon with coloured artificial lights to create a 'painting with light effect'. There are almost 300 photos so probably best if you just check out the thumbnails and look at teh ones that really catch your eye, rather than do as I did. I put on a John Foxx album and tried to watch it as a slideshow but it takes over an hour!

Would love to let John loose here with a camera!

Could do worse than spend some tmie looking at these two....

My favourite: The Sandpit

And a newer one: Coachelletta

Second one is technically better, but the first has much more.....hmmmm, wow factor. Watch out for "LED man" in the second one. Oh, and pretty good music too.

Cool - some of those close-up shots are really abstract. I can just hear Rolf saying "Have you guessed what it is yet?"

But a special mention has to go to 'First Lite' for the symbolism.

I used to have this book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Space-Art-Starlo...96227568&sr=1-1

Got it from mail-order when I was 17 and sold it in my early 20's for 50 pence eek , but I came across it in a library last year, it has a few excellent full page reproductions of the NASA fine arts paintings, there's a great one by Norman Rockwell with astronauts being suited-up prior to a launch.

Back when I used to own the book I was more interested in the fantasy illustrations of space travel, and I found the NASA fine arts ones rather dull, in fact I found anything to do with NASA extremely disappointing as a child, well, it hardly compared to Gerry Anderson or Star Trek!

But today I have a reversal of that attitude, I'd so love to have a book of all of the NASA works, but if it ever existed it'd likely be on evil-bay at an out of this world price laugh

Whilst looking up some of Robyn Hitchcock's lyrics for Birdsong's 'Birds in songs' thread, I came across this section of Hitchcock's website showing some of his surreal artwork. Probably not everybody's cup of tea but I really like some of it.

Check out my Flickr Stream, I'm a practicing Urban Explorer:

manof2worlds Flickr

My passion for dereliction has taken me to some interesting places and put me into some interesting situations (okay, it could be argued that maybe I put myself into those interesting situations - lol). There are some who would say that a man of my age should be doing more normal things like washing the car on a Sunday morning or playing football. No, that's far too boring. Dodging security, risking life and limb and getting quite mucky in the process is a lot more fulfuilling X-D
