Actually, I think it's on the Hidden Man interview, where John states, surprisingly, that he absolutely hates driving. I thought that was an interesting comment, since he's written great tracks about driving, like Automobile and Drive.

He's also written a lot of negative songs about it, like Crash And Burn and A Burning Car. These are probably influenced by JG Ballard. But I've often wondered if there was some history there.

Didn't he once say that he was involved in a car accident when he was young while traveling with some friends?

...or am I imagining that?!

Was this during the Ultravox years ?
And did he look angry? wink [/b]
It must have been between 1995 and 1997 but I really can't remember exactly when. I know it was between those years because it was when I worked in Sunbury-on-Thames and had to drive 32 miles home every night.

He didn't look angry, he just looked...well...like Warren Cann! I've abviously missed something somewhere about Mr.C (or was it 'X'?) as I have no idea why he might look angry, other than being stuck in slow moving traffic on teh M40 on a sunny Friday evening.

As a matter of interest, I used to have his autograph, written in my friend's eyeliner because she didn't have a pen with her when she met him, but I've no idea what happened to it. The traffic was moving so slowly that night, I could easily have jumped out and asked him to sign another one for me!

The following John Foxx quote is from http://www.ballardian.com/john-foxx-interview.

"The car-crash scenarios were particularly resonant for me, for three reasons. First, a perfect metaphor for my own life and what was happening with technology: an enjoyable journey interrupted by a couple of crashes. Second, I love and fear cars, how they’ve changed cities, landscapes, economies, our apprehension of time and our view of our own bodies – and the way they have made new and terrible crimes possible. Three, because I’d been involved in two car crashes and so had some good friends."

He doesn't explain whether or not the crashes occurred because there was no one driving. wink

Speaking about number plates ...

Last weekend, I was in a car with a friend & saw some amusing personalised number plates. I began to wonder whether if I had a car, would I have the number plate "FOXX" ... wink

Then within a second, a very nice sleek looking car zoomed past me with the plate "2FOXY". This is true, lol!

My friend said "2FOXY, JOHN FOXX"... I said that I had just been thinking about John & the number plate "FOXX". Ok, the spelling of Foxx/Fox was different on the plates, but I think it's an amazing concidence that this happened, it brightened up my afternoon ... smile
