The only New order cd I have is Movement, which is brilliant. I love every track off this album. Joy Divisionesque, but with them messing around with drum machines & synths a lot more.

i also love that song ( by far my favorite from the "republic" album & the best choice for a single release that anybody could make ! ;-) & i like the great cover version of it by marsheaux ( fyi : http://www.myspace.com/marsheaux ) too ! :-)

fyi : u can find that version on their latest album called "peek-a-boo" , which is - in my honest opinion - one of the best synth-pop albums ever made in the past 10 years - yeah ! :-)

... & yes , i really think that they are even better than ladytron , client ... & also goldfrapp ! ;-)

I am not surprised really, it had to happen eventually!

I have to say I have seen them twice in the last 20 years (oh and Bernard Sumner wandering around at a Karl Bartos show the other year) and had hoped to see them again.

I am a huge fan of their older stuff, the more recent is much less consistent, so I could only ever get into one or two tracks off a CD. So now I can go and play Power, Corruption and Lies, Technique and a good blast of True Faith to cheer myself up!

You never know, in a few more years when the royalties are dwindling and Hooky needs a new bass, you might see them back out again.

well ... to me it looks much more like barney was the one , who finally ( ? ) split new order with his "ambitions" ! ;-o

hooky is actually doing well with all his new projects & things to do , afaik ! ;-)

... but what will happen with "the other two" ( currently stephen & phil ) ? :-o

once again , tell will tell us the truth ... sooner or later ! ;-)

I got into New Order relatively recently and like them more than Joy Division.
I actually like Republic quite a bit.

I only liked a small amount of there 'joy division' era, but prefered there 'new order' tracks best, especially from the early to mid '80's..

Didn't like Joy Division.

Happy to survive with a handful of great New Order tracks!

I wonder how this will affect the soundtrack to the new "Control" film, for which New Order were doing some (re)recordings.

New Order were one of the first bands I got into once I had money to buy their stuff. Substance, Power, Corruption & Lies, and Technique are all brilliant records. Low-life is slightly patchier, and neither Movement nor Brotherhood made much impression on me, and after Technique it all went pear-shaped in my opinion: I cannot think of another band/artist whom I loved so much and then went off so brutally. But frankly they did so much good stuff that they earned the right to carry on (downhill).

Who was it said not everything a genius does is genius?
