| A film of a scientific
experiment on thought projection. A subject is locked in a double
glazed glass room behind a screen insulated with lead sheet and
asked to make movements and gestures which correspond to those
made at random by a volunteer in another, similarly insulated
room. The clinical behaviour and the formal, yet bizarre environment
conspire to produce an unintentionally surreal event. Both participants
are shown initially making completely dissimilar movements, but
at one brief point they seem to arrive at a strange synchrony.
Another factor indicated in the film may be anomalous but adds
a fascinating dimension. The experiments only seemed to function
when there were birds singing in the grounds outside the laboratory.
This was first noticed by a female student helper. (All personnel
involved were requested to keep diaries recording any alteration
in any external or internal conditions or elements present at
the time of each experiment). It is difficult to imagine any
connection between psychic transference and birdsong, yet this
synchrony was noted several times, and only took place on days
when there appeared to be some positive result in the experiments. |
