Hello, my name's Mariateresa, I'm from Milan, Italy. When I was a teenager, I remember I owned a tape of a band called Ultravox!

It was early eighties  and, while all my schoolmates listened to the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack, I loved Talking Heads, The The, Gary Numan.

In 1984 we changed home, and my Ultravox! tape went lost. A few weeks ago, I heard "Rock Wrock" on the radio. I couldn't believe how good the song was.

So I bought the cd "Ultravox! The Island Years" which contains nearly all the tracks that were on my early 80's tape.

Oh my! What a trip down memory lane. All the songs sound as fresh as when they came out and not at all dated, after all these years. "Hiroshima Mon Amour" still sends shivers down my spine.

I also saw a video on Youtube of "Hiroshima Mon Amour" and John Foxx's performance is simply breathtaking.

I just wanted to share all this with you fans (sorry for the English mistakes).

Thank you John (if you ever read this).

Ciao! smile

You can find various descriptions and accounts elsewhere in this forum .. sorry you missed it. frown .. but there are some good reviews and pictures around, starting from here:

Thank you all for your replies. The late 70's and early 80's were really great years for music. I must admit that now there are good bands that find their inspiration in the 80's (Interpol, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire) but nothing sounds quite like the original.

Am I being too nostalgic?

A couple of years ago, I spoke to Julian Cope, when he came to Milan to present his book and record, and when I asked him what he thought of this "new wave" of bands like Franz Ferdinand etc, he said he didn't like them at all (actually, he used the four letter word!) eek

Now I will buy again all of the Ultravox! cd's (early period, of course) and I think I will explore John's solo career, too.

Ciao!

I can relate to your Saturday Night Fever comment, most definitely.

Greetings from New York!
