The NME announces the death of the CD single - read Luke Lewis\'s goodbye and good riddance - yet recalls with some nostalgia the B Side . .remember those?

What are/were your fave B sides, Foxxy or otherwise? Which flip gave you a kick?

This Jungle was, for a long time, my favourite Foxx song. I never understood why it was on a B-side though.

Technically yes...and no! Marianne was the A-Side on some of the early editions
http://www.discogs.com/Human-League-Holiday-80/release/124193

but "as the song climbed the charts..." the order moved a bit and RnR/Nightclubbing became the a-side (on the 7" double-pack it's actually the D-Side)

On some copies, the 7" sleeve lists RnR/Nightclubbing but it's not even on the 7" itself

And this is my favourite Visage b-side. Maryann bought a 'Tar' 7" recently, but has never heard 'Frequency 7'. Still cant in fact, due to no record player. As much as i like the dance mix, the very vocal version is best.

There must be hundreds & I'll make a list when I have more time. For now.

David Sylvian - Blue of Noon.

Ok thanks for asking MemD laugh

Fave Foxxy B sides - the No-One Driving triptych : Glimmer / This City / Mr No - can't decide between them.

Yes there are many others but here's a few that spring to mind:

Depeche Mode - Shout / Now, This is Fun / Work Hard / Fools
China Crisis - Performing Seals / Docklands / Forever I & I / This Occupation / African & White (live)
OMD - Annexe / 4-Neu / Gravity Never Failed / Navigation / Sacred Heart / Vox Humana
Heaven 17 - Are Everything
Abba - Medley : Pick A Bale Of Cotton - On Top Of Old Smokey - Midnight Special
ELO - Jungle
Japan - Life Without Buildings
Gary Numan - Trois Gymnopedies / Down in't Park (piano version) / I Sing Rain
Sparks - Beat the Clock (long version) / No. 1 Song in Heaven (long version) - early attempts at long 'disco' versions although still on 7"
Ultravox - Hiroshima Mon Amour (1981 re-issue of Slow Motion) / Alles Klar / White China (live)
Oasis - The Masterplan / Down Are Way / Carry Us All (I'm in CD single territory here)
New Order - Hurt / In a Lonely Place
The Smiths - How Soon is Now
Pet Shop Boys - I Want a Dog / Bet She's Not Your Girlfriend
The Human League - Introducing / The World Tonight / Tom Baker / Hard Times
Mike Oldfield - Speak (Tho' You Only Say Farewell)

Bah! Can’t believe I left these out – tsk! Tsk!

So well worn and familiar are Glimmer / This City / Mr No to me now that I’d completely forgot that these were originally b-sides.

Gary Numan - We Are So Fragile

He played a fantastic version of this song as part of the Replicas tour.

Yep - and it's also covered by Ultravox on the b-side of 'Sleepwalk' or 'Passing Strangers' (can't remember which)

I like Film One a lot. The first time I heard it I found it strange but later I liked it. Today I love it. It was great to hear it live as the opener to the Metamatic Tour. Great we have it on A.N.K.O.M. My favourite track on this live CD.

PLAY IT LOUD!!!! wink

A Woman On A Stairway. period.

Not just a great B-side - probably the best track in the entire catalogue... :p

Just thought of this track while thinking of a track for the sax thread. Gary Numan - 'The Image Is' has to be one of his best post machine music b-sides.
