Does anyone know what day of the week Sounds, NME and Melody Maker were published in the 1977-1979 period??

Something tells me it was aThursday, but I'd like to be convinced

Martin it was def on a Thursday in the early 80s so I imagine it was the same in the period you mention.
Same for Smash Hits

Yes Smash Hits was fornightly you're right (At least while I used to buy it until circa 1984).

Back to NME, I'm still pretty convinced about Thursday but memory's a funny thing.
BTW bought an NME a couple of weeks ago but couldn't make head nor tail of it.

Record Mirror was published as a tabloid on Saturdays until 1982, when it changed format to a magazine style in order to compete directly with Smash Hits.
As Smash Hits was published on a Thursday, Record Mirror also changed from Saturday to Thursday during 1982...
