Hi, a friend at work mentioned this to me yesterday - seems to be from a while back, but was surprised when he said which song
was covered.

Sitting at the edge of the world

Maxi has also covered Japan's Alien, which I think is pretty good.

It's always interesting to see people inspired to recreate music via cover versions. I wonder if the original artists concerned (generally speaking, not just these two) feel flattered or not?

Its difficult to pass an assessment on these without knowing the background (i.e. are these "tribute" songs, in which case a large amount of forgiveness can be offered, or serious attempts at "improving" them, in which case a more critical eye should be cast.
I went in to hearing these two with low expectations (I'd never heard of Maxi Dunn) and came out equally low. HOWEVER, I did think that Sitting At The Edge Of The World did sound well suited to a female voice - something I've never considered before. I also liked the bit where the hot air balloons were going up and down - that was cool.
I'll also confess to switching off Alien shortly after the vocals started, and concluded that fans of the originals may not be the most subjective in judging covers! wink
