45 rpm to maximise the sound quality... Rob

This both looks and promises to sound wonderful. But...
I do rather think it is an opportunity missed to see TWO versions of He's A Liquid included, especially as Gazelle Twin has already covered the track (beautifully, on Exponentialism).
Speaking purely from my own personal opinion, I would have preferred to see Xeno & Oaklander working on a different Metamatic track - perhaps Plaza or Touch & Go...
Sorry, but we do welcome all opinions and thoughts here

That's a good point. Perhaps the artists chose which tracks to cover - it'd be interesting to know, and if they did - ask why they made those particular choices.

Well, well. Wrangler covering "He's A Liquid? That's a must to have; not that I expect the rest of it to be chaff by any means! This looks like a great sequel to "Exponentialism" but that one came on CD, sigh. Okay. You've got me. I'll order this wasteful, decadent, inconvenient 12" made by former soviet bloc sweatshop labor any way. How I am already missing the CD era terribly.

Will there be a digital release? Even if I wanted vinyl I'd be worried about it crossing the ocean and a fair chunk of North America intact.
Of course, this being a John Foxx-related release, I half expect a CD combining the contents of this and Exponentialism plus one or two exclusive new tracks on CD as soon as this record sells out...

Exponentialism is currently on emusic, so I would suggest it is a possibility, mind you that was released on CD (if that makes any difference, I don't know). Looking wider, I wonder if there is any hunger for a full tribute album - covering tracks from right across John's career but especially 1981 to 1985!

I've read a comment on Twitter on John's account saying there would be a download version available in March.

Why did they bother ? It's awful. The original will be turning in its grave. It's the sonic equivalent of "Jackson Pollock does Caravaggio " *awaits impending ban from forum*

Well, I'd be interested, especially if it also included the first three Ultravox albums as source material. The Church covered "Hiroshima Mon Amour" a few years back, after all. I've read a comment on Twitter on John's account saying there would be a download version available in March. Great. I think I can wait that long.

I like all the tracks on here - but some more than others. Soft Moon's vocal is not very good at all and it is the weakest track
Personally, I have struggled to see the logic behind its release though, especially when considering Exponentialism from a couple of years ago.
It would have made more sense (to me) if the original idea was carried through - to release an album of cover versions of ALL of Metamatic, which I think was first mooted sometime in the late 1990s...
There MUST be many bands from a wide spectrum (rather than limiting it to this inner sanctum) that would consider an invitation and be given a track each, as Foxx was for the Wish You Were Here project. Instead, we have six Metamatic tracks across two EPS of which THREE are He's A Liquid. Ironically, one of my personal Least Favourites, but that is by the by.
So while I like the music, I find the release a little disappointing
While I am grumbling, why why why are there so many previews and listening options available (soundcloud, you tube, band websites etc) I think all that diminishes the effect of the release itself.

Not surprisingly, given that she hails from N Ireland , she sounds like Sinead O'Connor

Northern Ireland via Yorkshire from age 8.
As for my verdict on the record.
I like it apart from the Soft Moon cover.
it's a shame the versions of He's a quid stick strictly to the original percussion style.
I would have expected one of the artists to tear it up.
My favourite on this Hannah Peels followed by Wrangler then Lone Lady.

For those of us who don't miss vinyl, this is out on the digital services now. Just downloaded mine from eMusic.com, so I assume iTunes and the rest have it too.

That's Intentional. I was looking forward to The Soft Moon's version of "No-One Driving" due to the fact that "Evidence," their collaboration with John Foxx + The Maths from the album of the same name, now sits atop my list of Foxx favorites; displacing songs that are nearly 40 years old. There has been some chatter in the forum about the qualities lacking in this version but I think that those naysayers are missing the point. The gridlike precision of the original has been swapped for a thrilling, breakneck velocity. This is a performance that's in the red, and I happen to love how the vocals are buried in the slamming miasma of sound that it created. When it ended after a scant 2:42 I was ready to pay right then and there for a 7:30 12" version.
