Just got back from Liverpool, went up to do the Beatles stuff, really enjoyed the Childhood homes.

Anyway I don't know that much about art but whilst there I thought I'd take in the Magritte exhibition at the Tate as I remembered it had been mentioned about John Foxx being influenced by Magritte.

I didn't really know just how much "The man in the bowler hat" had influenced the quiet man/suit stuff. And seeing the original of "The Pleasure Principle" up close and personal was a real wow. I spent so long on that one painting they must have thought I was planning to nick it!!

Some of the other stuff also reminded me of the early Talk Talk covers.

If you get chance have a look I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's on until 16th October £11 to get in.

Ceci n'est pas une pipe!

Thanks for pointing that out Heart. Always liked Magritte since I was introduced to his work by my then girlfriend in mid-80s .. imagine what i thought when I first saw "Le principe du plaisir!"

..

Gary Numan you plagiarist!!

then when The Pleasures of Electricty came out I knew where it was coming from cover-wise!

I saw an exhibition in Rome a few years ago and, like you, I wanted to stay in there all day looking at all the stuff!

Here's one of my favourites:

L’empire des lumières, 1954

Magritte was always - and still is- my favourite surrealist.

Cheers Heartland for mentioning this, as it happens I'm going to be in Liverpool for the day on 6th September to see the Wooden Shjips playing at the Kazimier, so a trip to the Tate may be on the to do list.

I just got back from my holiday at the weekend. The Magritte exhibition is at the top of my things to do list now I'm home. I love much of his work. Thought provoking but visually stunning too.

Magritte's clearly in fashion at the mo', designer-tinted specs at the ready, a snip at only £60, and to think there was a time a few years ago when these art toys could be bought online for only £20, ah that inflated price will be all down to the worldwide recession then:
