You know those times.

You pull out an album from the heap, or pick something up from a friend, and it sounds cr*p.
Disappointing, annoying?
Doesn't happen often.

But tonight, I am trying to get through Pulp's "We Love Life". I was hoping for much better things from a Scott Walker produced album and a band with such a great pedigree, especially after This Is Hardcore was also a let down.

They got it so wrong... frown

Yes it dont happen often but the Stolen Babies album comes close to it.
I suppose it was my own fault for buying it during 'the mid life crisis' smile , thing is she can really sing if you find the rare tracks where she decides to.

Every couple of years or so I dig out "Natural History Remixed" by Talk Talk (well, not actually by them, obviously). I manage to convince myself it can't possibly be as bad as I remember. Unfortunately, it is and so it goes back on the shelf for another couple of years. frown

'Lifeforms' by FSOL...actually ANYTHING by FSOL! When the album originally came out, it was recommended to me by many friends, so I thought I'd give it a go. On paper it ticks all the right boxes - old analogue synths, guest appearances by Liz Frazer and Robert Fripp, beautiful packaging for its time. But it's just, I dunno; ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Now, I listen to a lot of ambient music, but this is just so, bad. Really, really bad. Every few years I dig it out and think "Is it really that bad?" and yeah, it is!

I've got Lifeforms somewhere. It was great at the time, but it verges on being annoying these days. Same with ISDN and Dead Cities. I liked them in my college days, but I think I overplayed them at the time and got bored with them.

I think that's the word - 'boring'. I just found it very, very boring. An old friend and myself used to take our analogue gear to a rehearsal space on a Sunday afternoon and just jam. Synths would wander aimlessly for hours - Great fun! but you wouldn't release it!

It's a bit like going home and telling a work-based joke to your friends; might make sense to you but means naff all to anyone else.

If you read my 'what are you listening to' post you know I played The Cure: Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me today. That was 72 minutes wasted frown
I will never play this one again. Pity, the other 2 of The Cure I have are quite good.

special note: the cd actually states that a song was left out of the track list since the original album was a double lp and they could not fit all the tracks on a single cd
