Personally I'm indifferent. They've done some great stuff in the past, but I didn't think their later work was worth bothering with.
I've never been a big fan anyway - I've got the best of - which does have some smashing tunes on it - and I was always a fan of 1993's "Republic". That's all the New Order I need.

I saw them at Wembley Arena last year. Although I've never been a huge fan, I can appreciate they have written some great stuff and their wider status, in part, due to the Joy Division connections. In saying that, the concert was pretty dreadful and one of those that I would class as ' cross off the list of bands I want to see before life takes much more of a hold...' only.

Phew! at last someone else who likes that album.. one of their best for me, some great tunes, great production and generally brilliant. Perhaps slagged off a lot because of post-Factory era but one of the best albums of the 90s IMHO.

Hated Republic.
Came across some of it on a tape in the car last week.
Still hate it.
I was a big fan of the JD stuff, and early NO, "everything's gone green", Hurt, "Blue Monday", even Confusion...
Haven't bothered with the new, new order.

i always loved new order & they were really influential for me in general , but live they were always a kind of "hit or miss" band , as they were either brilliant live ... or completely PANTS ! ;-o however ... nothing can beat the "electronic ecstasy" live version of their classic "temptation" , which is one of my all time favorite live tunes ever - yeah ! :-) btw : their album "power , corruption & lies" of 1983 will always be one of my all time favorite albums ! :-)
anyway ... new order are as much "dead" by now as o.m.d. , the police or genesis are / were ! ;-)
make of it , whatever u want now , fellows ! ;-)

new order are my all-time favourite band! but i don't know, haven't they kinda split before... so who knows. and they did all their best records way back in 80's anyway.
as for republic, i have to say it's definitely their worst lp, but 'regret' is one of the greatest songs ever made.

i wouldn't say it was their worst ... I didn't get into Brotherhood myself . .seemed a bit shabby and over relaxed. Republic was sort of a relief after that, A fantastic comeback : Siren's Call was disappointing after the very promising Krafty ...

actually brotherhood is my fave... one of the greatest albums ever made by anyone...
but i understand why some people don't like it, it's a bit rough, not very polished... but i love it!

The only New order cd I have is Movement, which is brilliant. I love every track off this album. Joy Divisionesque, but with them messing around with drum machines & synths a lot more.

I am not surprised really, it had to happen eventually!
I have to say I have seen them twice in the last 20 years (oh and Bernard Sumner wandering around at a Karl Bartos show the other year) and had hoped to see them again.
I am a huge fan of their older stuff, the more recent is much less consistent, so I could only ever get into one or two tracks off a CD. So now I can go and play Power, Corruption and Lies, Technique and a good blast of True Faith to cheer myself up!
You never know, in a few more years when the royalties are dwindling and Hooky needs a new bass, you might see them back out again.

I got into New Order relatively recently and like them more than Joy Division. I actually like Republic quite a bit.

Didn't like Joy Division.
Happy to survive with a handful of great New Order tracks!

I wonder how this will affect the soundtrack to the new "Control" film, for which New Order were doing some (re)recordings.
New Order were one of the first bands I got into once I had money to buy their stuff. Substance, Power, Corruption & Lies, and Technique are all brilliant records. Low-life is slightly patchier, and neither Movement nor Brotherhood made much impression on me, and after Technique it all went pear-shaped in my opinion: I cannot think of another band/artist whom I loved so much and then went off so brutally. But frankly they did so much good stuff that they earned the right to carry on (downhill).
Who was it said not everything a genius does is genius?

I much prefer Joy Division. Their rawness in particular & they had a decent singer!

I reckon it's all pretty much 'in the can' by now..... I quote from MySpace page: ANTON CORBIJN’S FILM CONTROL WILL OPEN THE 39TH DIRECTORS’ FORTNIGHT Anton Corbijn's film Control will open the 39th Directors' Fortnight on Thursday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. Cast: Sam Riley, Samantha Morton, Alexandra Maria Lara Synopsis: The life and death of Ian Curtis, lead singer of the legendary post-punk rock band, Joy Division. Devoured by his demons, torn between his family life, his growing fame and his love for another woman, Curtis committed suicide on May 18, 1980 at the age of 23, on the eve of Joy Division's first U.S. tour. Without realizing it, Ian Curtis changed the face of rock music, Anton Corbijn, a world-rank photographer, has also directed video clips for U2, Depeche Mode, New Order, Nirvana, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others. Control is a black and white fictional account of the career of Ian Curtis, lead singer of the legendary rock band Joy Division, which would become New Order after Curtis's death.
